What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a gentle therapeutic approach that helps you access the subconscious mind, where many of our beliefs, emotions, habits, and behavioural patterns are stored. During a session, you’ll remain aware and in control while your mind enters a deeply relaxed state, making it easier to explore and create positive change. We move in and out of hypnosis all day long. For sure twice a day; right as we’re waking up and right before falling asleep. That in between is a hypnotic state. You are aware that you are still kind of asleep,, but you’re also aware that you are about to wake up, or about to fall into a deep sleep. It is a very relaxed and comfortable dreamy state. You hear the hypnotherapist, but it may also feel like your mind starts to drift and wander, or you may think that you fell asleep. In actuality, you were just in a hypnotic trance. You wake up when counted out naturally. All the customized hypnotic, tools, anchors, and suggestions are being absorbed by the subconscious.. All you need to do is be open and willing. The definition of hypnosis is: “a hyper-focused state of awareness. Sometimes our hyper focus is on our problems and issues. When that is the case people are already walking around in a state of hypnosis. I need to relax them deeply to then take them out and break that pattern of worry, fear, and overwhelm, ect.. At Mind Body Practitioners, hypnotherapy is always tailored to your individual needs and forms part of a holistic approach to healing.
How does hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy works by guiding you into a deeply relaxed and focused state, making it easier to access the subconscious mind, where many of your beliefs, emotions, habits, and behavioural patterns are stored. By relaxing your brain waves to alpha (which is a very deep meditative state. Deeper than mediation) and theta (Where you start to see imagery, and symbolism, like a dream state)you are able to get to the root cause, and find the answers within. I can’t see what you are seeing, but rather I’m guiding you to find your own answers within, which in the long run is more empowering. Based on your own filter you are able to give it meaning. There is no bias. This also helps your nervous system to move out of fight or flight so that each session you drop in deeper after conditioning yourself to the process. In this state, your mind becomes more receptive to exploring and reshaping patterns that may no longer serve you. Rather than simply managing symptoms, hypnotherapy aims to address the underlying causes of emotional and behavioural challenges. At Mind Body Practitioners, every session is tailored to your unique needs, helping you create meaningful, lasting change at a pace that feels right for you.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Most people describe hypnosis as feeling deeply relaxed, calm, and focused, similar to becoming completely absorbed in a good book, a movie, or a daydream. You’ll remain aware of what’s happening around you and can hear, think, and respond throughout the session. Everyone experiences hypnosis a little differently, but it’s generally a comfortable and natural state of focused attention. You are completely in control. At Mind Body Practitioners, you’ll be guided at a pace that feels safe and supportive, ensuring you feel comfortable throughout the entire process.
Will I lose control during hypnosis?
No. During hypnosis, you remain aware, in control, and able to make your own decisions at all times. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process, you can’t be made to do, say, or believe anything that goes against your values or wishes. Instead, hypnosis helps you become deeply relaxed and focused, allowing you to work with your subconscious mind while remaining an active participant in the session. It is important to note that people seek hypnotherapy to gain control, not to lose control. At Mind Body Practitioners, your comfort, safety, and trust are always our priority.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes. When provided by a qualified and trained professional, hypnotherapy is considered a safe and well-established therapeutic approach for many people. Throughout the session, you remain aware, in control, and able to communicate at any time. At Mind Body Practitioners, your wellbeing is our priority, and every session is tailored to your individual needs, goals, and comfort level to create a safe and supportive environment for healing.
What issues can hypnotherapy help with?
Hypnotherapy may help with a wide range of emotional, behavioural, and personal challenges, including anxiety, stress, trauma, fears and phobias, PTSD, addictions, sleep difficulties, confidence, and unwanted habits. At Mind Body Practitioners, we also offer specialised support for areas such as autism, childbirth preparation, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), relationship strategies, and other holistic approaches. Every session is tailored to your individual needs, because no two healing journeys are the same. To explore the full range of services we offer, please visit our Services page.
What happens during my first session?
The first session is 1.5 hours. What you can expect from your first session is an extensive review of your timeline and patterns. The first portion of the session is the Cognitive Behavioral portion where we talk about what you would like to address. Then I explain in detail what Hypnosis is and what it isn’t. You will be taught tools, and strategies to help you start living a superior quality of life. I will do a test to see how you process information. This will let me know how to communicate with you during the hypnosis portion. All of that will be explained to you. The hypnosis portion is during the last 20-30 minutes of the session. The audio of your customized hypnosis will be e-mailed to you so you have it to listen to and reinforce in between each session. Listening to your audio daily is key to your success as you reinforce the suggestions and create new neuropathways.
How many sessions will I need?
All follow up sessions are 1 hour. Each individual is different and you can’t put a number on how many sessions you will need. Although hypnotherapy works a lot faster than traditional talk therapy, multiple sessions may be needed until you reach the desired outcome. The first session works on conditioning you to the process. Just having one session is not recommended. Note that subconscious resistance may come up as we start working through the layers. As long as you are open and willing to the process, that is what ultimately creates faster outcomes. Healing is not linear and a definite number can not be given. Statistically people do say they start feeling a significant difference after 6 sessions. The more sessions you have to work through and process things that may surface, the more the nervous system calms as well, and the deeper the customized suggestions drop in and take effect..
Do I have to relive painful memories?
No, you do not have to relive painful memories. The point is to release the negative charge those painful memories have over you. When we attach to things that is when we suffer. You will be guided to process it ethically in a very soothing way so you can finally release it and let it go.
What makes Mind Body Practitioners different?
We believe that true healing happens when the mind, body, and emotions are supported together, not separately. Rather than focusing solely on managing symptoms, we work to understand the deeper patterns that may be influencing your wellbeing. By integrating science-backed hypnotherapy with complementary holistic approaches, we create a personalized experience that supports meaningful, lasting transformation because every person’s journey is unique. We have taken the best of the West and The Best of The East and we have learned how to combine them for your benefit in an ethical way.
What if I've tried therapy before and it didn't help?
We will explore this in detail to see where there may have been resistance or some kind of block. We can continue to explore an approach that works best for you. Our goal is to find out where you are now and get you to where you want to be. We will do our best to help you start living a superior quality of life as soon as possible.

Yes. Hypnotherapy can often complement other therapeutic or medical approaches as part of a holistic wellbeing plan. Many clients choose to continue working with their healthcare providers while incorporating hypnotherapy to support emotional wellbeing, personal growth, and positive change.
